(WEST FARGO, N.D. – July 8, 2019) Due to an increased level of activity and demand for parking space at Elmwood Park, the City of West Fargo removed the compost and yard waste collection bins at the south Elmwood Park parking lot the week of July 8.
The City of West Fargo does not collect compost or yard waste at the curb to limit the amount of organic materials that enter the landfill. Instead, the city utilizes collection sites in various locations for residents to dispose of compost and yard waste, such as lawn trimmings, raking material, leaves, vines, garden waste and Halloween pumpkins. Three sites will continue to be available for residents at the Department of Sanitation (117 Eighth St. W.), Eagle Run Water Tower (40th Avenue S. and Sheyenne Street) and 17th Street E. (between Second Avenue E. and Star Avenue).
The collection sites include a large dumpster for grass, leaves and other yard waste. Ramps were added in 2018 to provide residents with easier access to the dumpsters. Brush, branches, plastic bags and garbage bags are not allowed. The collection site also includes a smaller receptacle for plastic bags and boxes used to transport the material.
Staff is evaluating if it is possible to add a replacement collection site in 2020. For more information about disposing unique materials, such as hazardous household waste, recycling, medications and sharps medical equipment view the City of West Fargo’s Residential Trash and Recycling Manual.
