All driving lanes through the 32nd Avenue W. and Sheyenne Street intersection are open to drivers. Over the new few weeks, crews will continue to work at each of the intersection corners. The remaining work in the intersection’s boulevards, medians and streetlights may require short-term lane closures between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through the remainder of the project.
Motorists will now encounter:
Sheyenne Street remains closed south of 32nd Avenue W. to through traffic. Local access remains in place for residents and businesses south of 32nd Avenue.
In the north portion of Segment 2 improvement area, crews have completed the new southbound Sheyenne Street Diversion bridge. Southbound and northbound Sheyenne Street drivers have shifted to use the new driving lanes and bridge over the diversion channel. Now that traffic has shifted, crews will begin work to widen the existing Sheyenne Street and Diversion Channel bridge. This will be where the new northbound Sheyenne Street traffic will be carried once road work is complete.
All other traffic control will be carried as it currently flows through the work zone.
E. Beaton Drive and Sheyenne Street intersection is open to residential access at the intersection. The frontage road toward Ninth/Veterans Boulevard is closed to all through traffic until west of the area businesses found on the frontage road. Crews are in the process of removing the existing frontage roadway for underground utility work and improvements to the driving surface. Work will last until the end of July, weather permitting.
In the Segment 3 work zone, 40th Avenue W. and Sheyenne Street intersection is open to east – west and southbound Sheyenne Street traffic. The permanent pedestrian crossing is open on the south side of the intersection while work continues north of the intersection. Due to the closure of 52nd Avenue S. at 63rd Street S. in Fargo, additional traffic is being routed to utilize Sheyenne Street to 40th Avenue W.
City of West Fargo and project staff are monitoring detour routes and traffic movements throughout the entire Sheyenne Street corridor. A traffic signal watch person is on-site daily to monitor the signal timing during peak hour of traffic flow and will make any needed adjustments through intersections.
The two-year Sheyenne Street corridor reconstruction project began in 2018 and will ease congestion and safety concerns in West Fargo by adding lanes to Sheyenne Street from 13th Avenue W. to 40th Avenues W. and reconstructing the I-94 Sheyenne Street interchange. The City of West Fargo is overseeing the project from 13th Avenue W. to 40th Avenue W. and the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is overseeing the interchange. Segment 1, completed in 2018, reconstructed a five-lane section of road from 13th Avenue W. to Beaton Drive. A six-lane section with raised median, offset turn lanes and a new bridge over the Sheyenne Diversion is currently under construction in segment 2 from Beaton Drive to 32nd Avenue W. Work on segment 3, from 32nd Avenue W. to past 40th Avenue W., began in 2019 and will result in a new four-lane section of road with a raised median and offset left-turn lanes.
