Lieutenant Adam Gustafson to be honored at North Dakota Peace Officer Memorial

Lieutenant Adam Gustafson will be honored Thursday, May 12, at the North Dakota Peace Officer Memorial in Bismarck. The memorial honors North Dakota officers who have died in the line of duty. Lieutenant Gustafson’s name will be added to the memorial alongside the 66 North Dakotans who previously lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Our department continues to carry his dedication and passion for service with us every day,” said Chief Denis Otterness. “Lieutenant Adam Gustafson always made a positive impact in his community and it is an impact our department will continue to make in his honor.”

This ceremony is one event in a week dedicated to North Dakota law enforcement and those who have died in service to the state. The West Fargo Police Department will also participate in National Law Enforcement Memorial Day at Lindenwood Park 12 p.m. Friday, May 13.

Lieutenant Gustafson died on duty Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from a heart attack while at the police station. Lieutenant Gustafson was a part of the West Fargo Police Department family since March 2009. A private memorial will be held at the West Fargo Police Department on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, to honor Lieutenant Gustafson.
