City of West Fargo to implement Drought Response Plan measures

City of West Fargo to implement Drought Response Plan Phase 2 measures

Update: During the Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, West Fargo City Commission meeting, Commissioners voted to remain in phase 2 drought response measures. Residents are expected to continue following these measures until further notice.

Original: Due to the region’s drought conditions, the City of West Fargo will implement City of Fargo drought response measures according to the water supply agreement between the cities. The measures of Advisory Phase 2 of the drought response plan are effective Tuesday, Aug. 3 in West Fargo. The Advisory Phase begins at the early signs of developing drought conditions and reduces water use by 5 to 10%.

Response measures for Phase 2 include:

  • Mandatory odd/even outdoor water restrictions for residential, commercial and industrial uses as well as for landscape watering.
  • Retail and commercial vehicle washing facilities are encouraged to engage in voluntary water restriction efforts.
  • Construction projects must engage in mandatory hydrant meter use.
  • Voluntary compliance with odd/even outdoor watering for residential gardens.
  • Voluntary 1-day per week lawn watering restrictions for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.

In an odd/even water restriction, properties with an odd-numbered address may use water as normal on odd-numbered dates, while even-numbered addresses may use water as normal on even-numbered dates. There are no restrictions on essential water uses such as shower, laundry or toilet usage. All Phase 2 drought responses are non-enforceable. The City of West Fargo will remain in Phase 2 until the West Fargo and Fargo City Commissions take further action.
