Reading during the summer has been proven to benefit children as they return to school in the fall. Even a small amount of reading, just fifteen minutes a day, can be a great help to stop the summer slide or learning loss that occurs when children are out of school in the summer. The Summer Reading Program at the West Fargo Public Library works to encourage children to continue reading and learning all summer long, so they enter the new school year ready to learn.
The theme for the 2019 program is A Universe of Stories, and we have many exciting events planned for all ages - toddlers through adults. Join us for our Kick-Off Party on Monday, June 3 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Along with registration, there will be a variety of activities throughout the evening including: guest storytime readers, model trains, the West Fargo Public Schools’ Sky Lab, outer space crafts, a live accordion band and more.
The Summer Reading Program will run from June 3-August 5. We invite people of all ages to participate in our lineup of events happening all summer. For kids, there will be weekly crafts, a STEM space camp, coding, galaxy slime, rocket launchers and much more. Adults can join in with book discussions, presentations, movies and more. Reading incentives and prizes will be available for all ages.
All Summer Reading Program events are free, but registration in the program is requested. You can sign up at the Kick-Off Party on June 3 or anytime afterwards at the Service Desk. Upon registering in the program, both kids and adults will receive a reading log that they may submit to be eligible for prizes. Join the program and celebrate A Universe of Stories all summer!
