City of West Fargo Employee of the Quarter
Dear West Fargo Chamber,

It is my honor to nominate Mrs. Chris Sandeen for West Fargo Police Department Employee of the Year for 2008/2009.

Chris currently has the title of Office Manager but when she was hired back in October of 1995 her title was 911 Dispatcher.  She proved herself to be a dedicated and skilled employee at that position and in June of 2000 she changed job descriptions within the police department and became a secretary typist.  Again she did a wonderful job and in March of 2002 she continued to climb the ladder to become an Administrative Secretary and finally in March of 2002 Chris became our West Fargo Police Department Office Manager, a title that she holds yet today.

If all departments were lucky enough to have an office manager like Chris businesses would certainly be running smooth!  Chris currently supervises nine civilian staff to include four secretaries and five police clerks.  She is responsible for approval of all purchases made through the police department and coordinates technology problems that occur both in the office and the squad cars with the I T Staff, keeping officers free to handle calls.

Chris's dedication is shown by her long hours at work, sometimes arriving at 4 am and working in to the late night, when problems have occurred and the pressure is on.  She watches out for others, plans her schedule around others so we are always well staffed and seldom if ever takes a sick day.  Chris is a wealth of information as she plans out our budget making sure it is not only well organized but up to date, easy to read and attractive.

Throughout my career I have come to realize that successful businesses and successful people got that way because of some key individuals in the organization that usually are not the most visible.  If you want to know how something "really works" or how something is "actually done" you go find that key person, usually a long time secretary or office manager, who will explain the facts and give you the direction you need.

As Chief of Police for West Fargo I have received a lot of compliments that were the result of what Chris Sandeen had done.  When hiring new officers I always tell them that I may have the title of Chief of Police but they need to see Chris for anything and everything they need or want, because in reality Chris runs the place and we all reap the rewards of her dedication and hard work.

  Respectfully,

  Arland H. Rasmussen
Chief of Police
