  Dear Sir:
It is my pleasure to recommend Peter Nielsen of the West Fargo Police Department for the honor of being recognized as the West Fargo Police Department Employee of the Year.

Pete began his law enforcement career by enlisting in the United States Air Force as a security forces specialist.  He entered basic training in 1993 following graduation from West Fargo High School.  Pete completed training as a security forces specialist while assigned to Lackland AFB, San Antonio TX.  Following training he was assigned to Grand Forks AFB, ND.  Pete also served during "Operation Desert Fox" at Prince Sultan AFB, King of Saudi Arabia following the first Gulf War.

Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1997, Pete continued his law enforcement education by completing the Law Enforcement Training Program at UND Lake Region, Devils Lake, ND.  Pete was hired as a police officer by the North Dakota State University in May of 1999.

The West Fargo Police Department hired Pete December 1999 as a patrol officer.  As a patrol officer Pete performs routine law enforcement activities.  Additional duties include acting as a field training officer training new hires for the West Fargo Police Department.  Pete is seen as an informal leader within the Department providing guidance and inspiration to his fellow officers.

As a patrol officer, Pete has been recognized each of the past five years by the Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley for excellence in performance relating to traffic safety.  Pete was awarded the Early Bird Award for assisting in the pre-hospital delivery of a baby girl on January 29, 2006.

Pete and his wife Pam live in West Fargo with their children Hailey, Caden and Connor.

  Respectfully submitted,
