Truck Regulatory Officer
Officer Mark Morris is currently assigned to the duties of Truck Regulatory Officer. Officer Morris has served at the West Fargo Police Department as a Patrol Officer since 2000.Officer Morris is also a Firearms Instructor, Maintains Rifles and Shotguns and Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. The Truck Regulatory Officer is supervised by Assistant Chief Mike Reitan.
Duties
The citizens of West Fargo have a great deal of money invested in their city streets. Like any other product, streets can become damaged if abused. This abuse usually is due to over-weight trucks and becomes very expensive for the tax payers. Therefore, the City of West Fargo elected to assign a specific officer to help enforce weight limits set for specific streets. The City of West Fargo has designated truck routes, where the streets are built to handle heavier loads.
The Truck Regulatory Officer enforces all weight/width regulations on city streets. The Officer is also responsible for checking construction areas during the construction season to check for possible violations of load restrictions, working with contractors to correct the situation.
The Truck Regulatory Officer works closely with the Public Works Director and City Engineer regarding various problems that might arise in regards to overweight vehicles. He or she handles complaints that any city official or office receives in reference to truck and weight violations. The officer conducts surveys for the engineering and police department such as speed studies, traffic flows etc. He or she issues citations for overweight vehicles and over dimensional size vehicles.
When not enforcing truck regulations the Weight Control officer will handle nuisance complaints such as junked vehicles and/or places where items commonly termed junk have accumulated, working closely with the West Fargo City Planners Office.
The Truck Regulatory Officer works closely with contractors on problems they might have in regards to oversize vehicles and over weight vehicles and parking problems.
