The West Fargo Police Department has its first-ever K-9 Unit.  Officer Pete Nielsen, who has been with the department since 1999, has been paired with Disco, a black two year old, 75 pound German Shepherd from Slovakia.  Disco has been trained to find/sniff out ten different drugs.  Disco also specializes in apprehending suspects, conducting building searches, article recovery, obedience and tracking.  Disco spent a year training in Europe before coming to North Iowa where he spent eight more months at a specialized training facility.  Officer Nielsen trained with Disco for four weeks, including training at North Iowa to prepare.
